Hi Everyone,

I've recently made the switch to Mac and so I'm still getting used to things. I've installed Chrome as my preferred browser but for some reason, when i go into full screen, there's a big gap on the toolbar at the top. The gap I am referring to is between the URL bar at the bottom and the menu bar at the top. It's super annoying (for me at least), so if anybody knows how to change this, your help would be very much appreciated. Please see image.

That's very odd. When you go into full-screen mode, you don't see the top menu bar anymore, so you aren't going into full-screen mode it seems. Are you hitting the green icon on the top left to go into full-screen mode?

Traditionally, when you do this, you have to move the mouse to the top to make the menu bar appear to perform other actions..

What version of macOS are you running? Can you try the same action with other apps and see if the behavior is consistent or different?

I am going into full screen mode, I have simply changed the settings so that the menu bar is always visible regardless of screen mode.

I'm on Ventura 13.4.

The issue lies just with Chrome as the issue I am talking about relates directly to the tool bar space in the Chrome app.

Also what Mac model and year are you using?

So you've tried this with other applications and Chrome is the only one leaving that gap? If so, it's an issue with Chrome..

You might want to try experimenting using various Google Themes available at the chrome web store:
Access them from: Settings > Appearance > themes and select one that might suit your use. I don't know if one could make a custom theme oneself or not. I have found that the color I want or something is correct but the layout is goofed up, or vice versa.

Anyway, just a thought you could try and it might improve things for you, but I hardly ever use full screen view with my iMac and no longer use a MacBook.

Despite the fact that Apple allows you to keep the Apple menubar visible in Full Screen Mode it is a bit of a contradiction and I wonder if that may be the problem. Have you tried turning that option off?
