Gmail App issue

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the following please.

My wife has a Gmail account and uses the Gmail app on her iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2. It has worked fine until just recently when all notifications, sounds and badges have stopped working. Emails are received and can be read on both devices. If I add her account to my iPad Gmail App the same thing happens yet my Gmail accounts (3) all notify correctly. Conversely if I add one of my accounts to her device it works fine, notifications, banners etc all received.

No Gmail account settings have been changed and comparing my account settings with hers they are identical (IMAP)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the apps.
Updated to 13.2.2
Restarted devices

If I install Spark Mail on both her devices it works fine all sounds and banners with badge work fine.

I am therefore completely flummoxed!

It would seem to be some relationship between the Gmail App and the Account settings but I can't see it.
