G5 Quad

Anybody have one?? Is there a notcieable speed increase over the dual-proc units?? I'm thinking of buying one... but I don't want to sink the 3 Grand if I'd be better off waiting for an Intel PowerMac, or getting a 2.7 Dual-Proc unit.

I bought the Quad, its truly a beast in a box. If your a audio or video editor, then i would say yes, but thats my suggestion.

Example, I use Pro Logic 7.1, by using this software on my Quad, im able to process more audio data, while im recording and listening to the audio.

Depends on what you are going to use the system for. If basic stuff like listening to music, internet search, emailing etc, i would get something like imac g5, or PowerMac 2.0Ghz (doesn't have to be dual).

Or if your doing some serious editing video/audio i would get the PowerMac G5 2.7Ghz, or Quad

Thanks, to both of you. And yes, I do video editing, trying to fun FCP on my current iMac is such a hassle... I know that I need a PowerMac for all of the apps I use, but I didn't know if the Quad really trumped the Dual 2.7 machine.

Thanks again!

Now I have to go start saving up....

Well, it does that on my Rev. B Dual 2GHz as well, and even did it on my former single 1.25GHz G4...with a Radeon 9800.

I'm so dreading the price of of the system I'll be purchasing in the next 6 months...

I priced a dual 2Ghz system just now, with a 23" display, 4Gb Non-ECC RAM, and it came to like.. almost $4,000 once I tossed Final Cut Studio into the mix.. add to that a $4000 camera... ugh, I need a job! :(

I dunno.. my dualie is plenty fast... I wouldn't ever fully utilize a quad unless I became an aeronautical engineer or something.

i think my next computer will be a refurb ibook to replace my old winblows PC since I am about ready to use it for target practice.

Are you a masochist, or is it your "self Christmas present"? You ordered that the bloody day it came out, man.

I don't want it on the floor. The dust bunnies might attack it. :)
