I have a PowerMac 2.5Ghz Dual Processor. It came with 2Ghz but I am testing it with two 256 sticks only. Also, I am testing it with a 64MB AGP card which isn't stock. When I turn the system on it blinks white on the front and the fans kick on and all but I never get a bootup. I reset the PRAM but it didn't restart the system like it said. Any suggestions? It wouldn't have to do with me only trying to boot it up with 512 would it?

Is it a matched pair of 256? If not, your G5 probably won't boot. 512 is the minimum RAM, so you're testing the lowest limits. Mac startup sequence goes: hardware > OS > software, so you're getting to but not beyond the first stage.

I am not getting anything but fans. The ram is a matched pair of 256 and it will boot up on my Dual 2.0 but not this 2.5

The 2GHz requires PC3200 modules and the 2.5GHz PC4200. There is some difference between the two and the slower RAM may well not boot the 2.5.

Keep us posted on your progress please?

PC3200 RAM is DDR and PC4200 is DDR2 quite a difference.

YES it is a difference. I am such an idiot for thinking that. I bought the DDR2 and of course it didn't fit (completely passed my mind for some reason). I went back and picked up 2GB of DDR PC3200 and it didn't boot up (did the same thing). Is the logic board shot?

Suggest time for a professional assessment. Some G5's have had power and logic board problems.

If you pull out the ram, and you do not get the 'no ram' beep then you have a bad mobo. And as harryb2448 said, it is not uncommon...

I have a PM G5 tower and have a simalar problem

Mine turns on fans kick on but nothing further. I know that the ram is good and right, have reset the pmu etc. I am down to the conclusion of power supply or motherboard. As mentioned earlier if the i get the beep it is the board. However i do not get that beep. My logic board only regsiters that something is not right when I remove the plastic casing, which then a red light pops on. In addition hoping it is the power supply i had it tested by a friend who has a little machine to test other macs and the main connector that the tester connects to did not register. I am not to familiar with the Powermacs yet and I'm wonder if the power is supplied to the fans through one of the other two connectors on the power supply. If anyone know which connector provides power to the fans that would be much helpful.
