SD cards aren't reliable, you should get an external hard drive (SSD variety) and use that for your data. You likely want to keep all applications on the internal storage.

Agree with Ashwin...get an inexpensive external HD...and off-load unecessary files.

The external HD can also serve a 2nd purpose...as a backup drive.:)

Although you probably shouldn't use an external drive that you use day to day, for a backup drive.

Apple knew that the early SSD's that they sold would be too small for many users. So they build storage management into Mac OS 10.12 (Sierra) and later versions of the Mac OS. The thing is that this feature is hidden, unreferenced, and it resides somewhere you wouldn't expect to look.

You can set up how your Mac handles automatic storage management, or you can manage much of it manually, in this well hidden control panel:

Apple menu --> About This Mac --> Storage tab --> Manage button

See these articles for a lot more information:

Thanks for that reminder Randy. I often forget that feature is there. A friend of mine had a gently used MB Air for sale recently and I snapped it up because my niece was interested in experimenting withe GarageBand. The SSD is smaller than I would have liked but the price was right.

This will come in handy when the time comes.

Sorry folks if this is off topic for this thread, but responding to the above...

If you like Firefox, and you have a fairly recent model Mac, check out this browser:

Waterfox (free)
Waterfox - Free & Open Web Browser

Waterfox is based on the same codebase as Firefox, but it takes advantage of the latest technology in recent Macs to provide extra speed. It is also designed to be really secure and extremely customizable.

If you want the ultimate in security, speed, and features in one browser, you should check out:

Brave (free)
Brave Browser - Download Brave Browser

Brave includes a free ad-blocker and you can even set it up to use the Tor network for the best security possible.

I highly recommend AGAINST using the Opera browser. It was purchased by a Chinese company, and there are just too many questions about it. See:
7 Secure Browsers to Protect Your Privacy and Stay Safe
and scroll down to "Issues with other browsers" number 3.
Opera is collecting your personal data.
