Formatting an External Drive

I have just purchased a LaCie 160 gig external drive and notice that it is in Macintosh PC Exchange [MS_DOS] format.
Do I need to reformat it into HFS+ or leave it as is?

Thank you.

If you plan on using it on Mac's as well as Windows computers, you'll have to put it into the FAT32 file system when you format it.

if you'll use it only n mac, you'll wanna format as hfs+ so if you everba up to it, you can boot from it.
