Forgotten Password iMac???

Help, I have forgotten my password for my New iMac running Snow Leopard.
I can't remember it... I can't reboot, shut down or anything, it's just stuck on the password screen.

Any helpers. would be appreciated.....

Obviously I don't want to lose any data that I have on my Mac..

Ok there was a post on this a little while ago, I am afraid I cannot remember the exact way to do it but if you search you will find the post.

What type of password have you set ? Is it a firmware password or simply a user password ? We hope you will say user and that you have a good back-up !
