folders

i am using a mac book pro and when i open say... VLC and then quit the program the folder is still on the desktop. How do I remove it ?? The folder stays on the desktop but when I restart or shutdown and turn the computer on again the next day, the folder is gone, how do I accomplish this without having to restart the computer or shutting it down???

I am fairly certain that will clear up your issue.
