new macbook owner here. i was wondering if there was a firewall we need to activate? also if i should install an anti-virus onto my macbook. thanks

Hey there retrokid23 :)

If you are connected to a windows network, it is sometimes nice to use Antivirus so that any viruses that you receive wont be passed onto other windows users (PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY WILL NOT EFFECT YOUR MACBOOK)

The firewall for mac OSX can be found in system preferences. Its a good idea that it is turned on. (i think it is by default)

Go to system preferences>sharing>firewall and turn it on. I asked the same question in other threads re antivirus and the answer I got is no. With Mac, you don't need it nor a security software since OSX has it all.
