Firelite external hardrive won't run with my PB.

I finally got my powerbook and now I'm trying to move my music and pictures from my PC to my PB using a universal firelite external hardrive. The problem is it won't work. When I plug it into the USB on the left side of my PB it shows that it is getting power, but seems like it loosed it. And when I plug it into the right side USB it doesn't do anything. I know on windows there is a way to "find" or "locate" things that you have plugged in, is there a way to do that with Mac. I love my new machine!!!!

Have a look in system profiler to see if that drive is on the firewire bus (from finder Apple + U) if it says "Unknown device" the you need to get it replaced
