Firefox taking over CPU and very slow.

For several days Firefox has crashed on me many times and is now running exceedingly slowly. I notice that that Activity Monitor is showing Firefox as often using in excess of 100% of CPU (103-107%). Is this normal and could it have anything to do with the constant crashes?

Activiry Monitor is also showing Page ins at 1.85GB, Page outs 107.9Mb, Swop used 132.3Mb. This 4GB iMac was last rebooted just 8 hours ago? Is this a sign that something is wrong too?

Try clearing the caches...Tools/Clear recent History.

Try disabling all your extensions, then enable one at a time until you find the one causing the spike.

Done that - no effect.

OK. Had Download helper 4.9.5 and two others local to the UK. Will see if this settles things down and add back and also report back. Thanks for the info.

Also make sure all your plugins are up to date...flash, java, etc.
