1) How safe is Firefox as a browser? I cannot seem to make westsiderentals.com work with Safari. I gather from this forum that Google Chrome is not very safe. That leaves me with Firefox, which I already have on my MacBook Pro.

2) Firefox keeps sending me an Update Software message, but when I run the Update, it doesn't, in fact, update the software. It tells me that the Update was successful, but it isn't. And then I get another Update Software message. What gives?

1. Firefox is no more or less safe than any other browser - they all have flaws and all have their own security advantages.

2. I'm not sure why that's happening for you but an easy solution would be to simply download the newest version from their homepage and install it over your current copy.

If you are up to date, as of today current version is 38.0.5.

For what it is worth opens just fine in Safari with 2193 rentals available.

Marrk, I just tried westsiderentals.com on Opera and it opens just fine. Were you able to access it before? What has happened since then? Have you experienced any other problems browsing lately?

Works fine on Safari for me (Safari 6.2.6).

Thanks, all.

At the time that I posted here yesterday, I was able to log on to Westside Rentals but not complete a search. I called them and, evidently, they resolved the issue. I can now use Safari on Westside Rentals like all of you.

Also, I just downloaded and installed Firefox 38.0.5.

Really? Where did you gather that from? Chrome is as safe or unsafe as any other browser.

LOL, your personal information is probably spread out across the spectrum already. Unless you're hiding out from the IRS or FBI, I wouldn't worry about it. Anyone computing on the net nowadays has no guaranty of privacy. ;)

There. I fixed that for you. ;)

Kidding aside, I get what you're saying. I just figured if there was some incredibly stupid mistake that I was about to make, you guys could head me off at the pass.

Honestly, and this might be where Mozilla's ethical stance has practical value, using something like Firefox might be a wise choice since every square inch of its codebase is open source. It's hard to hide something when everything is out in the open (I like to think of this as akin to playing hide and seek on the Prairies - it's hard to hide something when there's nothing obstructing your view)
