Hi, The problem is that the icons on any file don't update when the default application is changed. I was able to fix it but it only fixed the existing icon previews, any other default program change would result in the same problem What happened was, that I ran 3 the following 3 commands in Terminal $ sudo find /private/var/folders/ \ -name com.apple.dock.iconcache -exec rm {} \; $ sudo find /private/var/folders/ \ -name com.apple.iconservices -exec rm -rf {} \; $ sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/com.apple.iconservices.store They did refresh everything, and all the icons/previews were back in place as they should've been. In my case 1) I had some MP3`s not displaying artwork, when in reality the already had but still I manually assigned artwork to them via iTunes but they still wont show up in the finder. 2) my video files, MP4 and MKV`s were default assigned to quicktime, but I installed VLC and assigned that as default player to them, but they still would show up quicktime icon.Though double clicking would open VLC. After see thing those problems, I tried to fix. So the above mentioned commands, I ran them, it did update all the icons of the assigned apps. e.g. if i assigned MP4 to open with VLC, it showed VLC icon instead of quicktime. But NOW, if I again change the default app, it wont update the icon. It`ll stick to VLC icon but open with the new default assigned app. I tried in safe mode, tried with a new user account and also just finished reinstalling yosemite, its still there. And now i have an additional problem. I have an external display connected via HDMI. It has started to flick on its own after irregular intervals. I`m going crazy here. Please refer to the screenshot. Hope they make sense. As you can see in the screen shot, all the icons are no identical.
