I recently changed from macbook to macbook pro and have noticed that
when I open hard drive or user panel. It seems to be a random choice as to whether the panel displays the folders as a list, thumbnails or columns.
I prefer a list or columns can I set that as default somewhere?

Also when it shows as thumbnails the files are all over the place
and I continually have to tidy them up and re "arrange" them.
This is annoying, how can i tidy them up and make them stay tidy in a grid.

Finally if I am resizing a panel with thumbnails in it I have noticed the thumbnail size remains constant and if I make panel smaller then I lose some thumbnail icons of the edges. I recall with my macbook that the icons would resize themselves as i reduced panel size, this was very handy.
Can i make this a default setting?

All of the above I had with macbook as default but not with mbp...
...Aany help much appreciated.:D

View > as List, (or Columns, or Icons, or whatever) then View > Show View options and check the "Always open with..." box.

View > Show View options, then select Arrange by: Snap to Grid

There's a separate slider in the View Options box to adjust icon size, but there has never been an automatic resize.

If you arrange icons in a grid by name (or date, or size, or anything else)
then the grid will re-flow as you resize the window, but the icons will not resize.
