FB and Messenger can't access photo albums

I upgraded the ios on my 4s to 8.0 a few weeks ago and every since then I am unable to post photos on Facebook or message them to people from my saved photo albums, just from my camera roll. As I work in network marketing and all of my work is saved in my photo albums, this is very distressing. 8.0.2 was supposed to fix it, but my phone was not eligible for that upgrade when I found a link to force download it. 8.1.1 was presented today so I downloaded it, but still nothing.

Facebook is forcing its mobile users to use a separate app for messaging. Nobody is happy about this. However, that has nothing to do with uploading photos (yet) so I don't know what the problem there is.
