external SSD for MacBook Pro

My 2012 MacBook Pro died. I removed the 768 GB SSD (Samsung). The external case I got, which had the new USB C port, did not have the proper adapter...it was too big.
Is there an external case that has the proper adapter or an adapter for the older (SATA?) adapter?

The 2012 is a non-retina? If yes, there are several usb 3.0 cases that work regular usb 3.0 ports.
