hey

i'm experiencing slow transfers on my 80g
external hd.

does anyone know if its possible to upgrade an
external hard drive from usb 1.1 to usb 2.1?

transferring music and stuff is way too slow

any advice?

if you want to upgrade the drive it will depend if you are using a caddy or if its an all in one case, if its a caddy then yes but if its an all on one then id say no.

know its obvious but your USB port is a USB2 port aint it?

some ports are usb 2.0 the drive is all in one
- when on a 2.0 its still slow -

if on a 2.0 does ths mean my transfer is at 2.0?

no, both ends need to be usb 2.0 to get faster speeds.
usb1.1 on comp + usb2 hdd=usb1.1
usb2 on comp. + usb1.1 hdd=usb1.1
usb2 on comp. + usb2 hdd= usb2

You can probably find a USB 2/Firewire case and transfer the drive into it but given the cost difference between a case and the big USB2/FW external drives available now you'd probably get better value from a new drive.
