Just bought a new Macbook air, tried to attach an external Pioneer DVD+RW drive [DVR-XD10] with a music CD, connected, started to spin, then computer says "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer." Any solutions?

Hello and welcome to the forum! :) Now, I do not own this Pioneer optical drive (use an Apple Super Drive w/ my MBPro), but I was reading the PC Mag Review and several issues may be involved: 1) Power cord used is a Y-connector for 2 USB ports; and 2) Compatibility issues were raised for use on OS X; so let us know if you indeed have the drive connected to two USB ports - power may be an issue; otherwise which OS X are you using (assume Yosemite w/ a new MBAir)? Are any disks readable by this computer/external optical drive combo? CD's, DVD's, etc.

Well, it does have 2 usb connectors, but not a lot of cable, so since the 2 usb ports on the mba are on opposite sides, I couldn't connect both. Known compatibility issues as well, huh? I guess I need a new drive. Thank you.

You could purchase a Male-Female USB extension cable like the one shown below from Amazon - inexpensive and will at least determine if the extra power helps the drive function - probably cannot address OS X compatibility until the power issue is resolved. As I recall from the review, there is a connection on the device for an optional AC power supply that likely would not be costly. Dave :)
