ok so im running dual booted Windows XP on my Macbook, and i just bought Company of Heroes: Gold Edition. For those that don't know, Gold Edition includes Company of Heroes and Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts on one disc.

I know people with macbooks successfully play Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts as long as they turn the shader off in the settings because the integrated graphics chip in a macbook will does not support this shader feature.

HOWEVER, with Gold Edition, its not even letting me install the game because underneath the Shader Model section it says "Failed". i KNOW the game will run on my macbook if i can get it installed, but this installation system checker must be exclusive to Gold Edition.

my question is, can anybody help me with a way to get around the installation system checker so that i can successfully install the game? i know it will run, and i would've simply bought Opposing Fronts but they discontinued sales of it, and now only sell Gold Edition.

sorry to double post,

ive learned that the best solution to this problem is to buy the original Company of Heroes and install it because it does not check the system, then Buy Compnay of Heroes: Opposing Fronts and simply use the product key number to upgrade your account without having to actually install it.

This sounds like a good idea, but i seriously cant find Opposing Fronts anywhere, so im just wondering, do you think the product key from Gold Edition will upgrade it in the same way if i buy the original Company of Heroes?

I seriously doubt it. If they have used a newer install program in the Gold Edition then there is likely some other variation too.

Well, i went through a fiasco and finally got Gold Edition returned and bought the original CoH and what happens?

oh, the same thing because apparently that also has a system checker. idc anymore i guess ive wasted my money.

apparently other people with macbooks that dont have shader models were able to install this game because ive heard them say it, but somehow i am not able. obviously this game hates me.

i give up.

i would look at the install disk using windows explorer and look for other exe files. what ive seen companies do in the past is use a stub. it does some checks and if it passes it starts the real install exe.

right click the cd drive letter and choose explore. explore the cd disk to find the real install exe instead of the stub. i would bet money there is at least a few exe files on there. one of wich is the real game. better then loosing money on a game you know will work and you payed for.
