Evolution? What about this?

I have been searching for an Outlook alternative, and I stumbled across something about this open source project called "Evolution". It also says there is a Mac port for this software. Though it seems like it may be a port of an older version of "Evolution". Any way I have not tried it but the screen shots from the Linux version look like a good match for me.

Has anyone used this on the Mac, or do you have any suggestions for an Outlook (and Entourage) alternative.

Thanks.

Well, here are two alternatives to Evolution:

Daylite: http://www.marketcircle.com/google/MC_groupware_G.html?from=adwords&interest=groupware

Zimbra: http://www.zimbra.com/products/

I haven't tried either so I can't recommend one or the other.

Thanks Mac57.

I am currently running Outlook in Parallels. I need the mail, notes, calender, address book, and task functions but I want to get off the Windows application (I am a new switcher). Anyway, I am not thrilled with what I see with Entourage and I was just looking for something different. The app's you listed above seems to be more groupware or collaboration software, in addtion I do not plug into Microsoft Exchange so I am hoping that opens up my options.

Thanks again!

There is a Mac version of Evolution, but it requires X11 and it probably is out of date.

Entourage is probably a better bet for Exchange connectivity. Or you could try to get Mail to work, depending on your your Exchange server is set up.

Thanks, it does appear the Mac version of Evolution requires X11 and it does appear to be an old version of Evolution.

I do not need Exchange connectivity, I just have POP3 mail. So I was hoping that since I don't need to plug into Exchange there would be some options. Maybe Entourage is it, I just wish there was something else. Of course I read some pretty good thing about the next version of Entourage so maybe that is the solution.

Thanks again for the input.
