Last month, I purchased a 24" IMac with OS X (Leopard) which I have been very happy with so far. I also purchased a Keyspan USB to Parallel Port adaptor so I could connect my old Epson Stylus Color 600 printer to my new IMAC, since the Epson does not have a USB port. After I connected the printer, via the adaptor, the Imac immediately recognized the printer and was able to print documents via Gutenprint. However, as of late, I can only print 3 different times before Gutenprint just hangs and only prints 7% of the 3rd document. I restart the computer and then it immediately begins printing the document. I usually have a lot of things I like to print from different webpages so this is a problem. I am using the latest version of Gutenprint--5.1.7, not the beta 5.0.2. Any suggestions on how to get more stable software?

It could be a software problem but it sounds more like a memory problem. You're probably running out of printer memory (buffer) by the time it starts on the third page. Are you doing anything different now than from before when it was working OK? Installed any new software or upgrades?

I've got the same problem with an older HP LaserJet printer I'm using on a USB port. Around the middle of the second print job it runs out of memory and gives me an error message. Rebooting the printer gets it back running again. A real pain.

I'm also using the Gutenprint driver.

Regards.

Hi,
I'm not doing anything different. I update the Leopard OS as it instructs me to do so every few weeks. I haven't installed any new software that would interfere with printing. I've noticed as of yesterday, that it will only print one time, then you need to reboot the computer for it to print again. How do you increase the buffer?

Problem Solved

I solved the problem. I downloaded a program called usbtb and used that instead of of gutenprint.
