Can anyone recommend an encyption utility for Tiger? I was thinking of using FileVault but the possibility of locking myself out of my home folder is kind of scary. I have seen some free apps on MacUpdate and VersionTracker but none have too many reviews. All I want to do is encrypt a couple of local folders because I'm not the only on this desktop. Thanks!

dont know if this is what your looking for but there is a nice utility that will allow you to have an encrypted .dmg file to store all your stuff in

if you wanto to go this route then all you need to do is open Terminal and write the following

hdiutil create SecureDocs -size 5g -encryption -type SPARSE -fs HFS+ -volname SecureDocs

this will create a 5gig file with the name SecureDocs for you to add stuff into it. The parts that are in bold can be changed to suit your needs.

5g is the size field
SecureDocs is the name field

you will asked for a password when you first open it (i think but it will ask you for one!) just remember to remove the option to add it to the keychain otherwise everyone else will be able to open the file.

Hope this is what your after mate :)
