Hello there everyone,

Does anyone know why my trash can deleted files t extremely slow speed? For example, if i have 4000 files, it'll take days!!

Does anyone have a solution? Why is this happening?

Thank you..

Few questions:

How big are the files?
What type of files are they?
Are you emptying securely?

Sorta hard to tell what your exact problem is with so few details.

And go into Finder in the Menu Bar and make sure you have not selected Secure Empty Trash.

My question is, why in the world is there 4000 files in the trash before you empty it?

Well, as i'm quite to my Mac OS X, i've been having problems and even thought of selling my laptop lol It's probably just me that doesn't know how to do stuff.

Anyway Corbab, file types? unwanted programmes e.g Google earth, Skype, Utorrent files, sound files, videos of up to 700mb.. that kinda stuff.

To delete, i click on the trash can icon and select 'Empty securely'. Even may have only 4 or 5 files, but when deleting starts, it shows me from 4000-35000 files.. going down one by one!!!!!!!!! I would probably be DEAD by the time trash can is emptied!

AHAAAA!! Harry! Good on you son.. i went into 'Finder' and unchecked 'empty trash securely' and THEN tried to empty trash can.. it was as quick as a pullin train hahahah
What's the difference between just 'emptying' trash and 'emptying securely'? Latter can't be restored i guess?

Might keep my Macbook Pro actually :p

Thank you soooo much everyone.

Emptying the trash securely writes zeroes over all the data, as opposed to just removing the file paths.
