My first suspicion would be something related to Sympatico mail. Is that the only email account you have? Do you have other accounts with eg Gmail or similar that are performing normally? Does it work okay on other devices, iPhone or iPad? Reading up a little I see that Sympatico is a Bell portal of web services owned by Bell Canada and they are in the process of phasing it out. It's possible the Apple Mail app is having trouble with Bell's servers or the account preferences need to be reset. I doubt it's a problem related to Apple Mail itself. Sometimes the best solution is to delete the account in Mail preferences and re enter it. Alternatively you could try a different email client like Outlook for macOS, Thunderbird (Free) or Spark. Either way it might be a good idea to avail yourself of a secondary email account with another provider. I have 4; @iCloud, @live, @gmail, @vivaldi I had no trouble migrating all of these across with the exception of @vivaldi.net which had to be deleted and re entered.
