MAC OS X Version 10.6.8
Processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Capacity 1TB
Using Final Cut Pro X

I am quite new in the world of editing. I have few concerns how to make the process of editing fast like rendering, importing, exporting, etc.
should I buy an external hard drive for my media files? can i just break my drive into two? how should I break it equally or by 4:6?
If i need to buy an external hard drive what brand should I aim for?

Thank you for any tips :)

Way... way too many specs to list.
Faster storage device. IE. SSD.

It depends though, on long writes/reads SSD is only marginally faster than a rotational drive. Yes, they SCREAM on short writes/reads. I'm not sure how helpful they would be (cost/performance wise) for video edits because of that.
