downloading

i use downloading programs for music and movies, but if i turn on the firewall setting on my mac book pro, will that slow down the computer or the download of material ???

That depends on what downloading apps you are talking about. Some need a certain port open and most Firewalls will probably block that port. If that is the case, just go into the firewall tab and add that port so it's allowed. Otherwise, the firewall will cause no slowdown at all. It will either work or won't if a port needs opening.
