I recently discovered that I can take a photo of a dictionary etc. entry and then 'optically character read' it to save me a ton of typing in my strictly non-commercial essay between friends. (I always credit the exact book I am taking it from)

I have been using the SD Flash Card to transfer, but would prefer to just use a USB to transfer and have it mount on the desktop for the transfer, rather than going through Photo app. However the 'Nikon D3100' is not showing up on the desktop.

Is this possible? I now open the photo in Preview which has the OCR.

I can understand why you'd want to do that, does Nikon have any Mac compatible software for that purpose? I seem to remember my wife's Sony Digital camera did.

Did you look in Finder Settings? Then select which items you want to show on the Desktop.

Thanks Rod and Bob !

Nikon does have SW but it requires Ventura or Sequoa. I am running Monterey12.7.6.

The Finder Settings did not bring it out.

For anyone who is interested in discussing the OCR process, it seems to be so that the reader has trouble with reading parts of the picture. My guess is related to the clarity and darkness of the background colours so having good lighting is imperative.
