My girlfriend has an iMac with OS 9 on it. She had some foster kids in her home for a while (gone now) and one of them apparently went in and set a user password. The kid also lost/destroyed any boot disks that she had. The system will boot up fine, but then requests a user password, which she does not know.

Any suggestions? I myself am not a Mac user (sorry -- I apologize :)

This page may help, but I don't know whether she'll need the present password to change it to a new one.

If she does, maybe she could create a new account, then drag all the files into it.

Sometimes if you type in the same word over and over ,it will give you clues to the real password. Other wise youll have to nuke the hard drive and start over with a new OS.
