Last month I bought a new MBP. I recently upgraded the ram to 4gb. That means I have (2) Genuine Apple 1gb sticks sitting here. Will that RAM fit in a new MacMini I might buy tomorrow?

According to the Apple website all the specs DDR/667, etc on the ram is the same. Does the mini use notebook RAM or desktop RAM? I want to put one of these sticks in a mini, will it fit?

I want to build a MacMini Media Center, a 1.8ghz and 2gb should do me fine.

Thanks,

The new Mini takes:

1GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) on two SO-DIMMs; supports up to 2GB

The MBP takes:

2GB (two SO-DIMMs) of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB
800MHz frontside bus

So I would say yes. Both are PC2-5300 meaning DDR2 667Mhz. Should work.

I wasn't sure if the Mini used the same number of pins. Thanks!

Very very nice. Take that from someone who 2 months ago did not even own a Mac and now I have two. The only difference I really noticed was when the machine starts up. It use to look like the OS was loaded, but when I tried to start doing things it wasn't quite ready, NOW...it's ready when I see the dock.

I used Buffallo part number: DN2667C-2G $139.99 each local at MicroCenter.

Depending on how these left over 1gb Apple sticks work in the 1.8 Mini...for $280...I may put 4gb in the new Mini.

Whats your start up time with the 4GB? Like I pretty much have the same MBP as you. Mines starting up between 22-25 seconds. What 4GB doing..?

From cold, power button start until I see The Dock pop up is 28-30 seconds. Is that how your timing it too?

My Start menus has Itunes Helper, Mozy, MS Database/Daemon, Logitech mouse Daemon, and system events.

It depends sometimes i hit my timer on the sound of the computer booting, and sometimes i hit my timer on the click of the button. On the click of the button it's a lil higher than 25 secs. I also have a 7200rpm HD which might help in start up.
