Does Mac Mall charge sales tax?

I'm going to be purchasing a laptop soon, but i want to figure out whether or not they charge sales tax.

i understand its sometimes only charged in certain states. i wont reveal the exact state i live in, but i will say that i live in the western part of the US.

i think if they do charge tax, I'll buy my computer directly from the apple store

If you live in California (or IL, TN, NY), then MacMall definitely does charge sales tax. If you're not in one of those states, they may or may not. I'd run a test purchase right up to the point before you enter payment and see if tax gets added or not to make your decision.

Most states take the legal stance that buyers in their state are required to pay sales tax on their purchases. If the merchant doesn't collect the tax up front, you're supposed to send it to the state yourself. Expect the days of tax-free purchasing to disappear in the next few years as the states figure out how to force the merchants to collect for them.
