Just wondering how many folks here are big into movies? and have a nice home theater set up.

The wife and I use to go to the movies like 3 times per week. Now with my new career and having a year old baby, we can no longer do that.
So we are trying to set up a home theater and we collect blu ray movies.

We recently bought a 42 inch Panasonic Viera Plasma and it is nice. We also bought a blu ray player and it is such a huge difference from regular dvd. Plus they are not that expensive anymore.
Next is to buy the Bose surround sound system for it. I am looking at buying a home movie projector. But not sure what to do with that since we can live from base to base when the Army say to move and you never know how big or the shape your next home could be. So we want something more portable and easier to set up.

I for one can tell you that Ft. Hood & Ft. Knox family housing doesn't have anything available that will support In-Home Theaters. Except what you already have. I have a 62in Big Screen and surround sound but I don't watch T.V. anymore mostly reading.

When you start talking projectors and screens you need to determine a budget and move from there. There are so many options out there and the prices go to both ends of the spectrum. Once you find your budget you can find the projector that you like, and then choose a properly matched screen with the correct gain for the output of the projector.

Shop carefully and do your homework. It is more than throwing a few pieces together to create a true home cinema.

Good luck and have fun.

Just helped install one at my parent's house over spring break. 100" ceiling mounted powered projection screen, 1080p ceiling mounted projector, a Yamaha receiver, 5.1 speakers (currently cannibalized from a HTIB system, going to upgrade to better speakers and get a powered sub over the summer), Logitech Harmony 900 remote to control the million things hooked up to it, and remodeled the entire room (appropriate paint for the walls, heavy black curtains on the windows, and other small tweaks). Only thing that's really left is proper theater seating and an HTPC.

So far it looks absolutely fantastic. It's too bad I only got to experience it for like one night before I had to come back to CA :(
