Do macs have built in virus protection?

I've been arguing with a friend of mine about this. Does Mac OS X just resist viruses because of it's tight security, or does it have built in virus protection?

thanks....

I believe it is the UNIX base that is what "resists" a virus.

I don't believe it is market share. With the number of unix boxes out there, you don't here much about those being attacked by anything. You hear many able window, because it is easier to exploit.

And most of the people who run Unix systems are the kinds of people who know what they are doing on the internet and how to not get a virus.

No, it does not. There are no real viruses because no one has bothered to write them, yet, for reasons that are open to debate.

There are people, some of them here, who will argue that if you know what you are doing you can keep Windows virus free too.

Yep, that means no internet and NO GAMING FOR THEM! Lol...In reality, whats so big about 'gaming' anyway. Kids my age 14-18 love them, but I dispise them. If your going to use a computer make it secure(Mac) and make it worth a regular consumers money(Mac), AND productivity(Mac).

*sigh*

Not true at all.

Baggss is all kinds of correct, as usual. It's the Mac's low market share/lack of commercial users that keep it virus free. Most viruses were/are exploits to get at personal info. Since most commercial websites (eBay, Amazon, Paypal) use Windows/Linux based servers, hackers have no use in writing scripts/viruses for Mac OS X.

not true. Now I can kinda see why some people hate mac users so much. Unfortunately, most Windows users don't know their way around a computer, which makes it so vulnerable to viruses. If you actually know what you're doing, you can keep it virus-free while staying on the internet, gaming, etc.

I'm WAY into PC gaming, I LOVE it. There are seriously some really good games out that I've spent countless hours on. They're addictive and fun, especially if you get good (though my friend has my Oblivion disk right now... I wanted to be finished with the game by now). If you open up your eyes to some of the games out there, you'll find that there's at least a few that'll grab your attention and have you addicted in no time.

People who are bored, or want to get back at someone, or some company... or just children with the poor ability to foresee the future.
