I was thinking of getting of getting a referbished iMac. 21.5 in intel i7 with 4GB of RAM. Do you think if I ask them to upgrade it for me to 8 GB of RAM that they will do it.

Sure they will, and they will charge through the you know what to do it too. RAM on iMacs is easy, google the isntructions and do it yourself.

How much do you think they will charge? For the ram and then how much after that?

When you buy a Mac, the prices for extra ram are really outrageous from Apple, so I would expect the ram price to be the same excessive price at the Apple Store. I think I have seen a charge of $70 for installing the ram, but I might be mistaken. It really isn't that hard to install it yourself and you can get reliable RAM from Crucial or OWC.

You will save a TON if you purchase the RAM and install it yourself.

Here's the quick & easy answer. If you:

- go to the Apple Store online
- select the 21" iMac you want to purchase
- go to the configuration page
- upgrade the 21" iMac from the i5 to the i7 cpu
- below that you will see that the 4 gig to 8 gig ram upgrade charge/price is $200 bucks!!!!!!!

If you go to macsales.com...you can get the same 8 gig upgrade for $62.99 + shipping:

OWC 1333DDR3S08S 8.0GB (2x4.0GB Kit) PC3-10600 DDR3... in stock at OWC

...then install it yourself. BAMM...you just saved yourself around $130 bucks!!!:)
