My iPad2 (05/23/2011), is running V.8.1.1. Since I installed OS X Yosemite on my iMac, the display brightness dims on my iPad after about 1 minute & 20 seconds and if I don’t touch the screen, will stop what I was doing, i.e reading an ibook, viewing an app, etc., and go back to the home screen.

I then have to press the home button, slide to unlock, enter my 4 digit Passcode, and get back into the app or ibook before I can continue.

I have tried changing the "Require Passcode" in Settings from 1 minute to 1 hour without making any difference. There is nothing to change in "Display & Brightness" that would affect the sleep cycle.

Any ideas?

What does Yosemite being installed on your iMac have to do with any problem regarding brightness on your iPad 2? And this post has been moved to the proper forum.

That sounds like 'Auto-Lock', a setting on the General tab, rather than the 'Require Passcode' setting.

Have a look at that and see what value it is set to.

Sorry, I am new! I thought the two may be connected because the dimming and return to the home screen started at the same time after I upgraded my operating system on my iMac and then upgraded to 8.0 on my iPad.

Mine is set to 5 minutes personally, but I think that is the parameter which is giving you the behaviour you don't want. Set it to a higher value and see if the problem still happens?

Hi Ed - I have an iPad 2 upgraded to iOS 8.1.1 and have not had that problem; I have Auto-Lock set for 10 minutes in the General Settings. If not already done, I would suggest that you Reset the device, i.e. hold down the ON-OFF & HOME buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, then release and wait for a re-boot - please post back your results. Dave :)

I increased the Auto-Lock to 10 minutes and that solved my problem.

Thank you so much! Since this is my first time, how do I increase the reputation of the poster?

Click on the first picture in the upper right side of the dialog: "Add to reputation", and then insert remarks if you wish.

Hi again Ed - keep in mind, especially when reading a book that if the screen is not touched in 10 minutes, the same issue will occur (happens to me all of the time); also, don't forget the 'Reset' directions given - gets you out of many iPad 'mental hiccoughs' - ;) Dave
