I ended up using the Terminal to create a bootable flash drive. What is weird is that Terminal didn't like the command that I found on several websites . It kept telling me "command not found". So, I sent a post elsewhere on this forum & I was given a link to a website that had a command almost identical to the one that didn't work. The second command worked! Now I have a bootable flash drive! YAY! The next step is to do a clean install of Yosemite on my laptop. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
