disk partition

I just installed Panther on my powerbook. I partitioned the drive beforehand. panther on partition 1, nothing on partition 2. Now when I try to access or move data onto the second partition, it says that the drive cannot be modified and i have to authenticate it first. after putting in my password, it lets me move data on to the drive. why does it ask me for this authentication? is this normal, or did i do something during the partition?

i would try verifying and repairing disk permissions and make sure that your account is set for full rights on disks (i forget which menu this is in)

Check the permissions of the second drive. You may need to open up the write permissions on the drive.
