Different Firewire?

I just tried hooking up my external HD firewire to my new iMac. It doesn't fit. I searched online and I'm guessing one of the devices is FW400 and the other FW800 though I've no idea which is which. Probably the older HD is 400 and the new iMac is 800.

If I'm right about that... is there an easy fix to connecting a FW400 device to a FW800 port on an iMac? What about performance? I suppose speeds will reflect FW400... if it's possible at all.

That should work. It would work at FW400 speeds as that would be the limiting factor.

There is also this one but the Sonnet gets better reviews.
