Hello all,

I purchased a Black MacBook on Saturday evening and am wondering if I made the right choice... It's a 2.16ghz 2 Gig Ram 160Gig HD BlackBook.

I went with the Black 2.16, 2 Gig RAM MacBook.

I'm wondering if I should have gone with the 2.2ghz 15" RAM MacBook Pro?

I want portability so any 17" is out. I like the 13" screen on the MacBook but can still deal with the size of the 15".

I have been using the Macbook the past few nights... I Like it... BUT, i'm wondering if I'm missing out. I mostly use it for web browsing, photo's, burning DVD's (Movies etc...). thats what I have been doing the past few nights anyway. I play games on consoles mostly, but like to have the option if on a trip or just bored and want to throw something on it's nice to be able to... How is the MacBook going to handle, Halo, WoW, etc.???

I'm not happy that the MacBook does not have a PC Card Slot in it... It's nice to know I can throw an Aircard in there for mobile broadband If I want, but I know there are USB Alternatives out there, so is this even something I should be concerned about?

I don't know, As I said, I have been burning some iDVD projects the past few nights, and it has been doing well, I would like it to encode a bit faster, will I see any increase in speed going to a Pro?

Also there are 2 15" Pro's. The 2.2 and the 2.4 besides the .2 processor increase it there any other difference?

I also like that the Pro have the backlit keyboard, I surf a lot at night, on the couch, in bed.... it would be nice....

Please let me know your opinnions.

thanks in advance,

Gromet

If you're wondering, just return it and get what you really want. It's better than continually stressing out about your decision. The 15" weighs nearly the same as the 13" and since you said the screen size wasn't an issue the whole size/weight factor shouldn't be a problem for you at all. You don't have to worry about the lack of PC Card Slot either, you can buy USB or ExpressCard wireless broadband adapters. I would suggest going for the 2.2ghz model - it's $500 cheaper and all you gain with the 2.4ghz model is 2x200mhz and an extra 128mb of video ram, which has proven to be of little significance for both gaming and general processing.

Take it back, get the 2.2ghz model, and be happy with your new toy :D

if its within 14 days you can return it. just package it up well and erase your docs. - although it is wiped before being resold.

Yes I'm within my 14 days and I know I can return it. I'm wonderinf I SHOULD return it? Will I see that big a difference in graphics / overall speed? or am I just being stupid and throwing money away is my real question???

Sure it will be a little faster but the major differenes are in other things like the larger screen size (major factor for me), backlit keyboard with no spacing, expresscard slot, sexier (personal preference). If you ask me... it just sounds like you want us to talk you into it! ;D

You've only had your MB for a few days and you've already got buyer's remorse? You need to go to an Apple store and play with a MBP for a while. You have already experienced a MB so you're the best one to make that decision...

Yeah, pack up your MacBook (moving off any personal files) and go to the Apple Store. Leave the MB in the car (or not, depending on your level of comfort with that) and go play with the Pro. If you like what you see, return the MacBook and trade up.

If you anticipate playing games, then you want a MacBook Pro.
DVD encoding won't be much faster, but 3D games suffer with an integrated card.

Listen, the Pro will be faster but really for the everyday tasks your performing I don't think it will make a significant difference. The only thing you will see a big jump in performace with the Pro over the MacBook would be with 3D games.

However, the reason I have a PowerBook and not an iBook is because back when I went to buy my notebook and pick between the 2, I knew that the iBook was all I needed for surfing the web and other everyday tasks but the PowerBook is sleeker, more adult, and a classier machine in my opinion.

If you ask me, the reason your questioning yourself is not because of the performance but because you don't like the design of the MacBook and you’re in love with the MacBook Pro's look, feel, and design.

Bottom line, if I was you, I'd return the MacBook and get the MacBook Pro, but not because your going to get much of a performance upgrade but because you don’t seem to be in love with your MacBook and you will be so much more satisfied with the MacBook Pro in general.

Eitherway, sounds like your getting/got a great machine and goodluck.

Actually this is not true at all... I actually love the MacBook. I had the first 17" Pro when it was first release. I know the pro's. Obviously I don't want a 17" it is WAY to big (Part of the reason I got rid of it back than). I love the size of the MacBook, Love the design, don't mind the keyboard at all (It's actually quite comfortable to me, although I do wish it was backlit). and just love the look overall. I also like the size for it's portability. I Don't love the Aluminum look of the Pro, I think it needs an update and is getting old. I think the black is pretty slick looking...

I just want to make sure I'm not going to regret the lesser power, resolution, card slot, Backlit keynoard, extra RAM space etc....

2.2GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 120GB hard drive, 2GB RAM, 15" widescreen... pretty basic.
You're not losing out or missing out for general computing (which sounds much like what you need it for if you're just surfing and burning discs).

It's not a matter of what you want or what anyone else is telling you to get if money is of concern. If money isn't of any concern to you at all, then by all means go out and get the MacBook Pro. However, any difference in performance will be negligible for your computing needs.

Just do it, you know you want to.

I just got a MacBook Pro 2.2GHz and I love it. WarCraft 3 works flawlessly on high settings and WoW runs smoothly on medium/high-ish settings.

Get the MBP. I planned on getting a BMP, but when I found out I could get a student discount, the extra $200 was well worth it for the base MBP.
