deleting photos from iPhone

there does not appear to be an obvious way to delete all photos from iPhone . 4s os 6.1..cannot upgrade til make more space. emptied photos, then stupid device reloaded from iCloud. how do i do this, please?

The easiest method, and one that gives you an instant backup too is to import them to iPhoto. At the end of this process it asks if you want to delete all originals. With the imported photos you can then readily delete those you definitely don't want and keep any that you do.
