Deleting Files Question

My computer is stuffed and I am cleaning it up and will update to Snow Leopard.

While transferring lots of files to the new secretary of an organization, I came across lots of stuff I never knew was on my computer just by looking under all documents.

I have pages of Word 2003 XML things. An example is below. From viewing them it looks like stuff I've read on forums. Can I trash all these and why do they get there?

I think iPhones should have a &quot;trash&quot; folder like Macs do to give one more layer of protection against unwanted deletions.</div>

That looks like a cache file. Do a "Get Info" on one and see exactly where it is.
Probably ok to kill it.
