I've searched the forums as far back as 2008 - no joy.

I wonder if someone can tell me how to change a country in Dashboard weather settings.

I know about the + button and the i button in individual widgets, but neither of those allows me to change a country in weather. I've checked Apple and MacOS Help, but neither of those tells me.

Situation: the city nearest to my location is Christchurch, New Zealand. The weather widget in D'board allows me Christchurch, Vancouver - where the weather, especially the temperature, is greatly different!

Strangely, when I tried a large-ish town named Blenheim, NZ, some 300 km away, I was given several options of that name in different parts of the world - but once only! Some other smaller NZ cities I tried didn't register with D'board at all.

Two thoughts:
1. would trashing the D'board Prefs give me a 'fresh start'?
or
2. is there a way to add to or remove items from the list of cities, countries etc that Dashboard weather uses?

Hi Hugh,
Have you tried entering the local zip/area code into the weather widget?
This might work, as the widget allows town names, zip codes, etc

Just a thought :)

Might I suggest the Weather Underground widget. I much prefer it to the one that comes standard. And it will allow you to put in city and country.

Says it requires Tiger. I've used it through 10.4, .5 & .6.

Here's a shot of the widget with Christchurch.

No that doesnt work.
Must admit hugh i have been wondering about this, but hasnt troubled me enough to search for a answer.
@ Rottie, as with hugh i was looking for a small town in Western Australia with a post code 6317 and gave me Walchwil in Switzerland or Victorica in Argentina ??? What gives. Maybe its something to do with the WeatherChannel.com

EDIT: bob can you put in the post/zip code of 6317 and see if you come up with the town Katanning WA Australia before i dl it please

Nope, wouldn't do anything with the zip and closest town that I've been able to find out of about 10 searches in western australia is bunbury.

edit: found Bridgetown also

Thank you to all respondents.

Rottie - NZ doesn't have states and zip codes as such, although it does have postal codes (purely for internal use), which I doubt will make any impression. Christchurch (ChCh) for example has about 8 different postal codes, according to suburbs and other general areas.
Tom - thanks for the link. The thumbnail of ChCh is fascinating, as it's almost completely different from the reality (fine, clear, sunny, NE 3 knots, and 77ºF)! Forecasts are often like that ;).
TTM - I read a web page that had all sorts of MacOS 'secret' hints, including one about manipulating Dashboard. Like you, I wasn't using DB much at the time, so took no further interest. Now do you think I can find that web page?!!! :Shouting: Will post if I locate it.

Thanks for that mate. Not worth the hassle as that place is on the coast and my hommie is in the wheat belt and temps are considerably different.
Appreciate the effort tho. Might just stick with geek tool or my local weather site :)

EDIT: thanks to you too hugh, but as stated above im sticking with Elders Weather on my bookmark for now. Look forward to this elusive site ;)

This one gets Katanning. I'm only getting one day forecast on it here.

Will check this one out, and once again appreciate the effort mate :)

Will see how it performs as it has a lot of the little towns in there too

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
I usually open the windows, doors, or stand outside to check the temp... then again, where I'm living, the windows and doors are always open :p
I know that this is of no help to you, but I couldn't resist!

Well if this isn't rubbing it in, I don't know what is....
29.1C C 57% humidity 13km winds
Clear blue skies, ocean breeze, and ...might have to go out the back and have a dip in the river with my pooch, and tempt the bull nose sharks a little, or maybe a stroll to the beach.
Hmmmm, it's tough but someone has to do it :D
