Creating screen savers

I've searched Google to find out how to create my own screen savers, but I've found very little information.

I'd use AppleScript, right?

I'm sure that it wouldn't be easy for me to learn because I'd have to understand how OS X operates.

But, if I should choose to accept the challenge, how would I go about it? Are there any books on creating screen savers? It would have to be screen savers for dummies!

For a screen saver you'd want C (or it's variants) or Swift depending on which version of OS X you have.

I googled creating screen savers. I found out that there's a screen saver template in Xcode.

I have Yosemite on my mini & laptop.

So, what is AppleScript used for?

What a minute! I'm confused!

Apparently, I can use Xcode to create AppleScripts. Then What is the Script Editor for?

Are AppleScripts like batch files in Windows?

They can be but AppleScript can also be used to do considerably more than is typically done with batch files. They can, for example, be used to control the features of many different programs. Beyond that I'll leave additional comparisons to others with more programming knowledge.
