My dad's getting his first Apple product soon, an iPhone 6 Plus. He doesn't own a computer at home, and has one email address, through his company email. My question is: can he, when he's unboxed the new phone, and is setting it up, create a new Apple ID and pick a brand-new Apple email as the username (which would then double as his iCloud account)? What he and I don't want, is for him to have to choose his existing email, associated with his company, as his Apple ID. I'm confused because somewhere in my rapidly aging brain I seem to recall that Apple asks you to put in an existing email, when creating a new Apple ID — but if that's true, then what do folks do who don't yet have an email? Thanks in advance for your help!

Get him a free Gmail account. You can do it on your computer. Then it doesn't matter where he works or what ISP he uses.
And he can access it on the iPhone in a browser if he has to.

Thanks for the gmail suggestion — but if he wants to create an Apple ID while setting up his new iPhone, can he punch in a new email with an iCloud extension, and if it's accepted, will he be simultaneously creating an Apple ID and iCloud account?

No idea. That's how I got my iCloud email, using my gmail to register an AppleID.
