Copy Yosemite to SD card?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I can't find it if it has?

I have just downloaded Yosemite and because of our high speed line, just over a meg , it took 6 or so hours. I have an iMac and a MacBook to load it on to and instead of doing the download twice I want to copy it to a 16 meg SD card. When I try it tells me that it's too big to copy!

Please tell me that there is a way I can get it onto my SD card Life is far too short to watch downloads of 5+ gig more than once..

Chances are very, very high that your 16GB card has not had its trash emptied/been erased, and thus doesn't have enough actual free space to hold the Yosemite installer. If you choose to erase it, you should format it for OS X Extended Journaled.

Problem solved Chas. It was formatted Dos fat32, but no longer so and it is doing the copy now.

FAT32 has a 4 gig fie size limit. You need to format the card to HFS+.
Dang, slow this morning.

I assume that the 5+ gig download is all that is needed for the upgrade, apart from the backup that is??

Off for a walk tomorrow with the village walking groupe. Just a short 7 Km so Wednesday may well be 'D' day for me???

I will look at doing a clean instal and sse if I can clean up some of the pony poo on the systems
