converting program

their is a program called totalconverter that efficiently allows for the conversion of any video file to another with extreme ease, like from quicktime to windows media player. the only problem is that the program is a PC based one, and doesn't not have a MAC counterpart. I was wondering if anyone knows of a MAC based converter program that is similar to what I have described and may work just as easily????
