Contacts not Syncing

There are 1,170 contacts on my Mac; 1,144 on my iPhone . I'm set up in iCloud; running updated el Capitan version latest. Any suggestions? do I just quit iCloud Contact syncing and go back to the cable sync?

Not sure what you mean by "cable sync"? But if you're setup correctly on your Mac and iPhone and signed into iCloud, your contacts should be syncing if there is enough remaining space on your iPhone. Have you checked to see if you have enough room on your iPhone? You really haven't provided us with much info to go on.

You might want to refer to this Apple KB article which refers to limits for contacts, size, etc, that you can place on your iPhone.
