Hey guys. I need to use an old iMac as an external display for my late 2014 MacBook Pro.
I am guessing I will use the thunderbolt on my laptop to connect to the iMac which I believe has a Mini-DVI Video out. I can't be absolutely sure this is the name of the display port on the iMac though as I have been unable to find the exact model online (don't have the model number to hand).
I have attached a pic below. Cold someone confirm this is the Mini-DVI video out.

As it says it is a 'video out', will it be able to be used as a video 'in' port as mentioned in this apple article?; http://goo.gl/Jz06Im

If not, is there any other way of using this iMac as an external monitor for my laptop?

many thanks

It should work in "Target Display Mode" as the article states. I've never tried it as my iMac has 2 TB ports and will work with any other Mac that has a TB port.

Sort of hard to tell from that angle - appears to be mini-DVI.
You can head to everymac.com and look up your model iMac to verify the port on it.

Target Display Mode was introduced with the "displayport" protocol in 2009 - Apple uses the "mini displayport" on their devices - TDM requires the displayport or Thunderbolt protocols and will not work on previous models.
