Connecting my macbook to LG

I have an LG 37in lcd and a white macbook. I have a mini dvi to hdmi and I connected it to my tv, the tv is not recognizing it but the macbook recognizes the tv. I changed the settings (aspect ratio, hertz, and picture quality) to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What resolution does the MB think the TV supports?
Do you see two displays in the "System Preferences" -> "Display" app?

And...
Have you switched the video input of the TV to match the HDMI port the MB is plugged into?

I figured it out, the cable doesn't really connect that well with the computer and it has to be at just the right angle.
