Now I'd like to clone my HDD that is in my MBP 13.

It is Mavericks 10.9.5 and I'd like to preserve all of my apps etc.

How would I go about this?

I have a brand new HDD out of a MBP available to clone to.

You would need cloning software and an external hard drive. We recommend either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to make the clone. Directions on cloning are provided with the app.

I think the directions in the software cover these two points but just in case here goes:

1. The drive should be formatted Mac OS extended journaled. I don't bother with using the Case Sensitive option.
2. Boot from the clone when it's done and log in to your account to make sure everything works.
