Clean reformat - Some questions

Hello. I've got a G4 1.5 Powerbook (12 inch) that I would like to do a clean install on due to some strange issues (Dashboard widgets don't connect at all to receive updates or function properly, Software update no longer connects for updates, a general overall slowdown), and I'm putting in a 1 GB stick early next week and would like everything running clean and smooth by then.

Anyway, I know I could reformat and keep the old system in a folder and pull back what I want, but I'd be more comfortable reformatting completely. Plus this machine was an open box when I bought it, and while I've never hard too many issues to suspect it wasn't reformatted when it was returned, better safe than sorry.

So I've backed up onto DVD all of my documents, videos, music, emails, etc.

But I have a stupid question: The only thing that's prevented me from doing this yet is having to reinstall a couple of applications.

Question: If I back-up certain applications and/or their folders, can I just paste them into the applications folder after the reformat and expect them to work? Is there another way to back-up applications for reinstalling?

The only two programs I'm worried about are Office and Aquisition.

That was a lot of babbling. I'm sorry. Any other reformatting tips would be appreciated, as well.

Oh yeah, and when I start the process and want to run off of the OS CD, do I still hold down "C" when booting up, or Command+C, or something else?

I don't know about Aquisition but Office will not copy like that. You'll need to reinstall it from the original disk and re-enter the registration info.
As far as the actual reformat process, boot from the OS CD with the C key down. Once the installer is running it will walk you through the steps to restore the machine to its factory-original state.
